Why Do I Need Insurance For Commercial Trailer?

30/9/2019

Insurance For Commercial Trailer

Organizations use commercial utility trailers to transport machinery and equipment, as well as goods and supplies to different places. Commercial trailers that are used specifically for business must have valid registration and insurance with the state motor vehicle department. Remember, different states have different insurance requirements.

What does the trailer insurance include?

In many situations, the liability insurance from commercial auto insurance cover extends to trucks and trailers. However, there are limits to this policy, and it may not be sufficient to protect your business. The trailer insurance aims at protecting you against losses caused by different risks.

Normally commercial auto insurance coverage does not indemnify the trailer itself in case of a loss. So, if your trailer is involved in a gruesome accident, the damage may not be compensated. But commercial trailer insurance can protect you in this, including other risk factors such as vandalism, theft, or fire.

In certain situations, especially for specialized trailers, it could be costly to replace a trailer than replacing a van or truck. Thus, trailer insurance is imperative for business owners in this line of business.

How much does Commercial Trailer Insurance Cost?

Insurance costs for trailers tend to vary based on the kind of trailer in question and its value. Driving records of those behind the wheel and claims history, also play a crucial role in calculating premiums to be paid. However, getting a quote is easy; you only need to contact a reliable commercial trailer insurer to get started.

Benefits of having commercial truck insurance:

Tax

This type of insurance is a tax-write off. Remember, commercial truck insurance is a business expense; everything about it involves spending money, from the trailer upkeep to purchasing gasoline. Think about the savings your business will benefit while working safely on the road with this insurance.

Security

Another notable benefit of this type of insurance is the protection for the employees. Trucking Companies already have a lot to be worried about, and if you can solve one major issue, such as ensuring the safety and care of your drivers, you must do so. Commercial truck insurance ensures the driver and other designated users have medical coverage in case of an accident.

Protecting Property

Equipment used in commercial trucking is expensive, not to mention the cargo. It is extremely important to protect company and client assets, including trailers, trucks, and cargo.  Damage caused by a commercial trailer accident can be devastating to a small business. You could be responsible for replacement goods or need to refund your clients for purchases that fell through as a result of the accident.  This can be made possible without affecting the operating capital of your business by purchasing commercial trailer insurance.

Savings

The last and the most important advantage could be savings you can make as a company and a business owner. Typically, businesses associate commercial trailer insurance policies with high rates, and sometimes this can’t be avoided, but shopping your insurance with a multi-line carrier could prove a profitable phone call.   Kelly Lee Insurance works with over 50 independent carriers to ensure his business clients get the coverage they need at the best rates available.

It Protects the Image of Your Business

How people see your business can determine your business success in the future. If you have a positive brand, it is easy to convince potential customers to do business with you. But, if your company does not pay for liabilities caused by accidents, it can become challenging to find  new clients and customers.

Life Insurance Policies
Life Insurance Policies of Kelly Lee Insurance Services

Why is Life Insurance Important?

Life is unpredictable, and if you want your loved ones to lead a secure and comfortable life, should something unfortunate happen to you, then you should invest in life insurance. Save them from having to endure financial hardship in the event of your absence.
A life insurance policy is a great way to protect your assets, and is one of the most affordable means of doing so. With so many options available in the market, one might find it challenging to make a decision on their own. Understanding your requirement and then selecting a life insurance policy can be overwhelming. If you are planning to purchase a life insurance policy in Lake Charles, LA, trust Kelly Life Insurance to help you make a well-informed decision.

No Pressure Decision Making

You can call us to look at your options because we carry both term and life insurance available, as well as permanent life.
What is term life insurance?

Term life insurance provides temporary financial protection for your family during your working years, with your ability to pay money directly to your beneficiaries after your demise. Financial obligations of those covered under the policy such as daily living expenses, school tuition for your kids, and your mortgage payments, will be taken care of. But you need a plan that promises long term coverage, which is why you should buy permanent life insurance.

What is Permanent Life Insurance?

This insurance provides lifelong protection and the ability to accumulate a tax-deferred cash value. Unlike term life insurance, a permanent insurance policy will remain enforced for as long as you can afford to pay your premiums if you find them affordable. Your policy and coverage need to match your families individual needs that you see as something necessary to cover.

How Can Life Insurance Policies Be Enhanced?

Life insurance policies such as a waiver of premium accelerated death benefit coverage, sudden illness, or even long term coverage that requires adjustment of the plan to match your family’s needs allows for the modification due to future life changes that may happen. Permanent Life Insurance Policies are used to pay premiums, as well as most financial obligations that add up over time. If you need lifetime coverage and you have the means to pay for coverage, it ensures that family stays protected. Permanent life insurance has cash value where the account grows at a rate specified by the policy. Cash values are separate from the death benefit of a permanent life insurance policy because when you pass away, your beneficiaries will not receive any of the cash value. Some insurance companies offer coverage for less than $50,000 so that the cost of a dollar per coverage is still high. Final insurance expenses are still expensive, despite the fact that they do not require a medical exam in order to determine coverage and provides coverage for a lifetime.

Kinds of Insurance for Homeowners & Business Owners

Homeowners and flood insurance are two different coverages in Louisiana. Many of the homeowner's policies exclude coverage for flooding. They have to purchase a separate policy for flood protection.

Personal and commercial insurance protects motorists and companies’ employees operating a motor vehicle. Private auto insurance protects drivers, passengers, and other motorists in the event of an accident. Insurance carriers offer liability and comprehensive coverages with a specified deductible, which is an obligation of the policyholder.

Worker’s compensation is a policy for protecting the company’s employees against injuries and to protect the owner’s liabilities. It is a policy mandated by the State of Louisiana.

General liability insurance - Lake Charles La - is coverage is available in a standalone and Business Owner’s Policy coverage. It covers injuries to customers, damage to property, and lawsuits. Factors To Consider When Operating a Home Business

Entrepreneurs who operate their businesses from their home should consider the following factors:

Avoid mixing personal with business when selecting coverage to protect your home, yourself, and others. It could cause issues with your blanket coverages.

If you operate out of your home, contact an insurance agent about policy options for protecting business equipment, supplies, and office furnishings. Some agents allow home businesses to purchase a policy package for covering the use of portions of the house they are conducting business.

Another option is the Business Owner Policy, an affordable option with worker’s compensation, general liability, commercial auto, and other products that meet the needs of your company.

Roofing Contractors - Common Exposure

7/6/2019

Picture
Roofing can be a competitive and rewarding field, and years of hard work can help contractors establish a strong customer base and reputation. Roofing contractors invest their expertise, time and energy to build or repair roofs that will stand the test of time. However, owning a roofing contractor business can be physically and mentally demanding, and it’s a constant challenge to deliver exceptional service while maintaining profitability and reducing commercial liability.

These challenges are magnified when you consider that risks related to property damage, equipment breakdowns, environmental factors, while inland marine and crime must also be addressed.  The list below is an overview of these risks and more—helping you identify potential blind spots in your risk management and insurance programs.

While most incidents that occur on a customer’s property would be covered under a general liability policy, property exposures are still present at the contractor’s office and workshop. Exposures can come from malfunctioning electrical equipment, flammable materials, weather and natural disasters. Fire damage may be a particular concern if the contractor stores roofing materials or heats bitumen on the premises.

No matter how cautious your employees are, accidents can and do happen. These accidents create a significant bodily injury exposure. Slips, trips and falls are common hazards in roofing operations. What’s more, because roofers work at heights with tools, people below are at risk of injury from falling objects. In the event of bodily injury to an employee, client or third party, a roofing contractor could be forced to pay for medical costs, emergency care, doctor's visits and legal expenses.

The vast majority of roofing contractors depend on employees to operate vehicles for the company, this creates automobile exposures in the process.  Needed for daily operations (i.e. driving from project to project or transporting tools), the use of a vehicle can lead to accidents and significant insurance claims. Additionally, if you allow employees to use their own vehicles for work, standard commercial auto policies are often not enough.

Once a job has been completed, roofing contractors can be held liable if their work product causes bodily injury or property damage. While claims of smaller problems can often be resolved with a repair, larger issues may result in legal action. Completed operations coverage can help protect a contractor in the event of such a claim.

Roofing contractors depend on a variety of different equipment to complete work on a roof, potentially creating significant equipment breakdown exposures as a result. Moreover, roofing contractors can experience business interruptions or even lose contracts as a result of an equipment breakdown.

Roofing contractors regularly transport equipment, tools and supplies to and from worksites. As such, any property that is unique and valuable in transit, in your short term care, stored at determined (but movable) locations or used to transfer information represents inland marine exposures. Materials and tools can be damaged in transit from shifting loads or traffic collisions; at the worksite from collision, being dropped or poor weather conditions; or lost from theft, potentially creating costly losses.

The disposal of old roofing materials, waste bitumen and other hazardous materials presents potential environmental liabilities, as these materials can create pollution. Environmental incidents are particularly concerning because they can cause harm to the community,
and often involve costly cleanup and cause damage to a business’s reputation.

Continuity is critical for any business, and there are few things more important than continuous revenue and a steady cash flow. A single business interruption can be costly for roofing contractors and may even lead to serious reputation damage or long-term closures. Common interruptions for roofing contractors stem from natural disasters, fires, equipment breakdown and loss of materials.

Roofing contractors face several crime exposures, particularly if valuable equipment or tools are left unattended at the work-site, which may attract thieves or vandals. Thieves (including your employees) can rob an office or work-site at any time, targeting cash or valuable supplies. What’s more, with work-site locations changing on a regular basis, the level of risk a roofing contractor faces is in constant flux.

When an employee is injured on the job, your organization could be subjected to expensive workers’ compensation claims. Common sources of on-the-job accidents for roofing contractors include falls from heights (e.g., roofs and scaffolds), heat stress, injuries related to equipment use, slips, trips, falls and musculoskeletal injuries caused by repetitive tasks. Normal, everyday tasks related to laying shingles or climbing ladders can lead to accidents and, in turn, increased costs for your business.
For More Information

While the proper risk management practices can reduce certain exposures, no system is 100% effective in ensuring an incident-free workplace. As a result, it’s all the more crucial to work with a qualified insurance broker to not only assess you exposures, but secure the appropriate coverage as well. Is Motorcycle Insurance Really Worth It?

Discussing Motorcycle Insurance As A Necessity

Some may think owning a motorcycle is easy, but what many do not realize is that this mode of transport requires almost the exact same requirements as a car, and included in the list of things to do, is the need for insurance.

How Does Motorcycle Insurance Work

According to the Bureau of Statistical Information, the United States has over 885,000 motorcycles on the road in 2007, and it can be safe to deduce that this number has increased over the years. The laws regulating motorcycle use, age, licensing, and training do vary, but the main thing to keep in mind is that insurance is a major factor that cannot be ignored.

Before purchasing a motorbike, most riders are encouraged to take part in a motorcycle safety course upon which they receive a certificate. This often works to lower their premiums as many companies offer large discounts upon presentation of this certificate. Other discounts may depend on age, including insurance companies that offer more competitive rates to riders over the age of 50, while others specialize in ensuring younger riders. To get the best motorcycle insurance Lake Charles insurance companies have to offer means understanding the options available by exploring the coverage options available.

Types of motorcycle insurance Lake Charles companies sell

Liability insurance is the most basic form which normally covers the bodily injury and possible damage that may be caused to the property of a 3rd party. This does not cover the rider, but rather focuses on the other party with whom the rider may have collided with. It may also cover injury to a passenger rider, depending on the insurance company and laws of the area within which such an accident may happen.
Motorcycle Collision Insurance covers the damage to the motorbike upon collision with another vehicle, which means the company will usually pay for damages amounting to the book value amount of the bike minus deductibles.

Comprehensive Coverage in contrast with the above Motorcycle Collision Insurance pays for damages caused by anything other than a collision with another vehicle, such as theft, fire, or vandalism, covering the book value of the bike.

Personal Injury Protection which pays for the medical bills of the rider, passenger, and pedestrians who may be involved in an accident. This is usually offered on as an ‘add-on’ and may not necessarily be available across the country.

There are other disclaimers and additions to this insurance coverage such as Coverage for Customized Parts which will compel a insurer to pay for more than the standard factory parts that a motorcycle comes with. There is also the Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage which would pay for personal injury caused or damage to property by another driver who does not have insurance and usually covers medical treatment and lost wages.

Factors Determining Motorcycle Insurance Costs

There are a number of things that may make one individual be liable to pay more insurance costs than another, and these include:
- The age of the driver
- The driving record of the driver
- The area within which the driver lives
- The age of the motorcycle
- The number of miles the driver rides in a year
- The storage of the bike
These are just a few of the factors that contribute to the premiums involved in purchasing motorcycle insurance.

Conclusion

In conclusion, having motorcycle insurance is beneficial for both the rider and those in their environs. It protects owners from having to face major costs after an accident that could be financially devastating. Most states in the U.S require proof of insurance before registering a motorcycle and getting a license plate, meaning insurance is a solution that may keep one from ending up in the dirt.

How You Can Save Money on Home and Auto Insurance?

3/5/2019

Home and Auto Insurance
If you own a home or car, it is imperative that you renew your homeowners and auto insurance. When considering renewal, you might come across a number of options that will help you make sure that you have the coverage you need at a good price. There are numerous Lake Charles auto insurance options, where you can find an agent for auto, home, business insurance, and obtain policies that come with the largest discounts.

1. Auto Insurance

You need auto insurance any time you own a car, but you should search for insurance that offers discounts. These discounts could be in the form of multi-policy, good driver and in some instances, carriers offer accident forgiveness.  Understanding your auto insurance and which repairs should come out of your pocket versus submitting a claim, can help you avoid spending too much. You should ask if there is a way to structure your insurance to save money. For instance, if you can afford to, you might find that choosing a plan with a higher deductible drops your rate significantly.

2. Home Insurance

Storm-resistant windows, shutters, home security systems and monitoring.
According to the III, hail and wind were the #1 cause of loss in 2016.  Nearly 1 in 40 homes has an insurance claim in this category every year. While not inexpensive to upgrade, hurricane resistant glass and roll-down shutters help prevent wind damage associated with hurricanes and tropical storms.

A home security system is another upgrade homeowners can usually make to reduce risk of loss from burglary and secure homeowners insurance discounts.  Home security falls under protective device discounts and could include something as simple to install as door sensors and smoke alarms.

Before making voluntary upgrades to your home, consult with an insurance agent about the type of system you are considering and how and if it will impact your policy coverage and potential discounts. Certain requirements and standards may be required for eligibility, and not every state or carrier offers discounts for these upgrades.
They might flip you to their car insurance plans, and you will get a policy discount because you have more than one policy.

3. Multiple Policy Discounts

4. How Long Do The Policies Last?

Typical auto insurance policies are renewed every six months.  Homeowners insurance are usually quoted for a year, however, most homeowners don’t shop insurance very often and once in place they generally stay with the same company until they sell or refinance their home. That is why is important to shop for the best rates on your homeowners insurance initially.

5. Call Your Agent

The best insurance agents are aware of the discounts available to their clients from their various insurance carriers.   If you are serious about saving money on your auto and homeowners insurance, dedicate an hour to go over your insurance needs with an agent.  Allow them time to ask the questions need, and give them honest answers. It is their job to help you manage your risk, while saving you money.

To Conclude

Household Flooding Without Rain?

23/4/2019

Picture
When it rains, many times, it pours.  When it pours, all that water can lead to flooded homes.  Did you know homes can flood when there hasn’t been a drop of rain for weeks?  A common cause of household flooding comes from appliances that leak or malfunction.

Drip, drip, drip.  It’s just a small leak, you barely even notice, but is it causing destruction?  Uh-oh, the washer failed to drain after the cleaning cycle and as the rinse cycle runs more water it overflows rushing from the laundry room into the kitchen and running down the hallways to the bedrooms.  Water from an emergency situation, or a gradual build-up, both can cause costly damage to your home.

Dishwashers, Washing Machines, and Refrigerators with Automatic Ice Machines are the three most common household appliances that cause homes to flood and endure water damage.  Here are some maintenance and inspections tips to follow to lessen the likelihood of falling victim to an appliance caused household flood.

Dishwashers have supply and discharge lines that pump water in and out during the wash and rinse cycles.  If one of those lines springs a leak and ultimately explodes, gallons of water can flood the kitchen causing damage.

Soapy water can also backup in the dishwasher spilling out onto the floor.  This backup of water is usually caused from a malfunction like a faulty float, food and debris clogging the drain gate or the discharge house, or using the wrong detergent.

To aid in the prevention of a dishwasher caused household flood, it is recommended that the drain gate be checked frequently clearing debris and food particles.  Hoses and connections should be routinely inspected for leaks.  Also, purchase and use dishwashing detergent recommended for the make and model of your appliance.

A hole as small as a pin prick can cause a constant small drip to lead to big household floods if ignored.  Many times, water can build up and cause hidden damage.  If a washing machine supply line bursts, it can cause great damage.

Again, prevention is key.  Check your hoses and connections closely at least twice a year.  Are there cracks, holes, any moisture or water spots from the hoses are where connection are made?  Does your hose have plenty of room and lie smooth or are there kinks in the hose?

If it is time to replace your hoses, think about using stainless steel hoses instead of rubber. Maintain a minimum of four inches between the washing machine and wall.  That way hoses aren’t crowded and cramped.  Installation of an automatic shutoff valve, that can sense water pooling on the floor and shutdown the water supply by closing the valve, might be a good tool to prevent household flooding.

Ice that comes from an automatic maker in the refrigerator/freezer is genius.  We love the convenience but again a leaking line to spell household flood disaster.

Make sure it is installed properly and the copper hose won’t come loose, or worse, disconnect totally.  Routine inspection of the water line is the best way to detect a small leak before it becomes a big problem.  The four inches away rule applies to this appliance as well.  Leave that gap to prevent crimping.

Routine inspection and immediate repair are the best ways to prevent household appliance flooding.  You should also inspect your homeowner insurance policy to understand what your coverage would be in an event of an appliance caused flood.

Call Kelly Lee Insurance today for a no-obligation quote for all your insurance needs.

Road Trip Ready - Summer Vacation Tips

9/4/2019

Picture
Ah, Spring!  Summer is a few months away.  Is your vehicle ready for the weekend road trip or summer vacation travel?  Here are a few car maintenance items to check out and do before you hit the road.

Schedule any routine maintenance before your trip so you won’t have to stop for it during your trip.  Oil change still a few hundred miles out? Get it done before you hit the road and to avoid any performance issues.  Have all fluids topped off and make sure your tires are rotated.  Maintaining these things gives you a better ride and lessens the chance of routine maintenance needing to be done when you are away from your trusted car care facility.

Have your tire air pressure checked (including the spare) and have tires inspected for wear.  Many vehicles have only a donut as a spare.  Consider having your spare replaced with a full size tire that way you can continue a trip at normal speeds and distances without a trip to the tire shop.

Replace windshield wiper blades if need be and make certain you have plenty of fluid in the windshield well.  It is recommended to replace them every 6 to 12 months.

Have all your lights checked just like you would for a vehicle inspection. Turn signals, headlights, and tail lights should all be in working condition.  Don’t hit the road without making sure all are operational.  If you will be pulling a trailer or camper, make certain those lights are all in working order.  It is also a good idea to carry a spare fuse.

If a indicator light is on, have it checked by a qualified mechanic.  It is better to know why the light came on than take a chance while on the open road.

Have a mechanic check your radiator, hoses, and belts for wear.  Your car will run better and you can prevent being temporarily stranded if these are close to replacement time.  Prevention is the best cure when it comes to hoses and belts.

Have your brake system inspected. Making sure your vehicle can stop on a dime prevents many accidents.  Brake pads wear thin and sometimes unevenly.  You may not notice they are about to go out until it is too late.  Have a qualified professional take a look.

Check the suspension of your vehicle.  Being in a vehicle with worn struts and/or shocks can be likened to flying in an airplane plagued by turbulence.  Bouncing up and down after every little bump in the road does not make for a pleasant trip.  Have worn springs, struts, and shocks replaced.

Have the air conditioning system serviced and checked.  It gets hot quickly in a car and adding to the misery of a hot, humid day is a vehicle without cool air.

Clean your vehicle from top to bottom, inside and out, before your trip.  Maintain the cleanliness inside with trash bags instead of using the floor boards for waste.  At each pit stop, throw your trash away and clean the windshield.

One last thing to check is your car, truck, SUV, or motorcycle insurance coverage.  Knowledge is power, and when traveling knowing you are covered in the event of an accident can greatly increase your chances of relaxing.  Kelly Lee Insurance agents can give you a fast, no-obligation quote by telephone or online.  Make certain you have the insurance coverage you need at prices you can afford, for even the youngest drivers in your family, and take a vacation free from worry.
